One growing concern is the use of faculty time in the administrative process of the university. The Faculty Senate has only five committees — Faculty Affairs, Academic Affairs, Salary & Benefits, Research and Scholarship, Dialogue. These committees for the most part function as the Senate refers questions, concerns, policies, and changes in the Faculty Handbook. These Senate Committee issues come to our attention through regular Senate meetings, through the regular administrative process on campus, and through the Senate deciding on targeting one or more issues of faculty concern.
We need your input about faculty effectiveness — the use of the faculty in the administrative and academic process. Are you too busy? Do you have too many committees? Do you find any of your involvement too much to handle? Is your expertise being used to grow a better university?
We want to know your concerns and, most positively, your creative suggestions for the Task Force to consider as they finalize their work over the next few months. We look forward to your discussion in this blog. Task force members will be visiting the blog to respond and to continue this discussion.
Thank you for you help.
